The Fall Fair and Children’s Carnival,10am to 4pm. If you’ve never been to St. Stephen’s Fall Fair, this is the year to come, and bring the whole family. St. Stephen’s is celebrating its 111th year of faith and service in our community, and has pulled out all the stops to make this year’s Fair an event not to be missed.
rain or shine.
Admission is FREE, and there’s fun for the whole family. Kids of all ages will enjoy the petting zoo, pony rides, and the children’s carnival with games and prizes. In the Parish Hall, there are handmade crafts and homemade baked goods, fudge and candy. Check out the Boutique booth for “giftable” china, silver, and collectibles as well as jewelry. And of course, at Trash & Treasure, you’ll find all sorts of housewares, gently used infant and children’s wear, home décor items, small electronics and more. Just in time for the holidays, you can pick up a beautiful holiday plant, or a pretty flowering bulb kit – perfect for gifts.
A highlight of the Fair is always the St. Stephen’s Quilt Raffle! This year’s quilt is entitled “Flight“ and is a King Size creation in beautiful blue hues. It has been lovingly sewn by hand by the St. Stephen’s quilting group. This is a marquee tradition that has been going on annually for over 40 years.
It wouldn’t be a Fall Fair without unforgettable food! Don’t forget to sample the delicious homemade cakes, pies, cookies and sweet breads in the Heavenly Café and Coffee Shop. Of course, a scrumptious lunch will be served, which will include a kids’ menu, cooked by Executive Chef and St. Stephen’s member Matt Blass.
St. Stephen’s is located across from the Library on Main Street.Imi

Veterans Day

Veteran’s Day Observance, 11 am, Sunset Park, Lower Main Street 708-5819

The Kingston Trio, 8 pm, One of the few groups today that has survived the many changes in the world of music. They have remained consistent in their sound, which probably explains their resurgence in popularity over the last few years. The Kingston Trio consists of George Grove, Bill Zorn, and Rick Dougherty.
The Kingston Trio's trademark three-part harmony and clean, crisp sound keeps them touring 30 weeks out of the year. George Grove's orchestral arrangements allow the Trio to perform with symphony concerts, which have become a fan favorite. The Trio's busy touring schedule has resulted in an increasing number of new fans, both young and old.
As Bob Shane put it, "There is a tremendous demand for our type of acoustic music, and not just from those who remember the Kingston Trio. All people want is for us to sing a song, tell a story, and make it food." In 2011 the group received a Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Ani DiFranco, 8 pm As a singer, songwriter, activist, and independent entrepreneur, Ani DiFranco has been setting her own pace-and encouraging countless admirers to do the same-for more than 20 years. But while she has been known as the "Little Folksinger," her music has grown far beyond her acoustic solo roots in cozy venues to embrace jazz, soul, electronica and even more distant sounds. All of these are featured in DiFranco's new Righteous Babe release,Allergic To Water (2014), where she also blends abstract imagery and deceptively understated melodies with personal reflections on her life in New Orleans.

Josh Ritter, 7 pm
"How refreshing and inspiring it is to encounter a young artist whose achievements match his ambitions." -The Washington Post
Josh Ritter is touring in support of his latest album Sermon On The Rocks, and recently released the official music video for his new song Homecoming, which features thousands of hometown images submitted directly to Ritter by his fans. Of the video, The Huffington Post raves, "Homecoming moves from a solo piano setting a butterscotch tone, to the voice of a young man backed by a band chugging in the background; to an acoustic middle eight and back to the glorious rhythm…It's seamless, sweet, and real."
Released to widespread critical praise, Sermon On The Rocks was recently named one of PopMatters' "80 Best Albums of 2015" with NPR Music including his song "Getting Ready To Get Down" in their "Favorite Songs Of 2015" list, and Paste Magazine naming "Birds of the Meadow" in their "50 Best Songs of 2015" list. The New York Times asserts, "The literary-minded songwriter Josh Ritter…recharges his music on his eighth studio album, Sermon on the Rocks…Harking back to Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and maybe a little Mark Knopfler, Mr. Ritter has always been a slinger of serious ideas and high-flown imagery." The Wall Street Journal declares, "The new album's music is airy, propulsive and more often than not, catchy. Of his inspiration behind Sermon on the Rocks, Ritter comments, "I wanted to play messianic oracular honky-tonk."

Conversations from Main Street: Ron Darling & Daniel Paisner
Game 7, 1986: Failure and Triumph in the Biggest Game of My Life, 7:30 pm

Every little kid who's ever taken the mound in Little League dreams of someday getting the ball for Game Seven of the World Series. Ron Darling got to live that dream - only it didn't go exactly as planned.
In their New York Times bestselling Game 7: Failure and Triumph in the Biggest Game of My Life, Darling and co-author Daniel Paisner look back on Darling's career and reflect on the ways professional athletes must sometimes shoulder a personal disappointment as their teams find a way to win. Published to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the 1986 New York Mets championship season, the book breaks down one of baseball's great "forgotten" games - a game that stands as a thrilling, telling, and tantalizing exclamation point to one of the best-remembered seasons in Major League Baseball history.
Ron Darling & Daniel Paisner return to Landmark for a Conversation from Main Street that will elaborate on their book's timeless themes of ambition, competition, overcoming disappointment and the most American of all professional sports.
Read the book before you come! Get it now at Dolphin Bookshop and have it signed by the authors at Landmark. Or visit Dolphin's table pre- or post-"game."
Free admission to all Conversations from Main Street programs is made possible by the generous support of the Angela & Scott Jaggar Foundation. This evening's program is co-presented by: Port Washington Public Library.
